Ascent of Gray's and Torrey's Peaks

by Jim Tuson, Steve Bremner and Sam the Wolfdog

Jim Tuson is an old running buddy from my days in Hawaii ('93-'96). He recently transferred to Buckley ANG Base in Denver, only an hour from where I live in Colorado Springs. September 12th, 1998 we took a jaunt up I-70 to run/quick hike up a couple 14er's, Gray's and Torrey's Peaks--popular 14er's normally climbed together.  It only took us three hours from the trail head to go up and down both of them.

On the lower trail we didn't need coats.

Grey's Peak
By the time we got up the first peak, Gray's, it was cold enough to don our jackets.
On Torrey's it was lightly snowing and we put on our gloves. Torrey's Peak
Torrey's Summit
A straightforward easy climb recommended for anyone living in Denver who wants to try a fourteener, only an hour and half away.
