Steve Bremner before the Fargo, ND Marathon
Saturday's marathon in Fargo, ND was the inaugural Fargo Marathon-after three years in the planning they succeeded in bringing it off as one of the very best organized marathons I've ever run. From the web site to the full sized story board maps of the course in the expo to the speakers (I didn't see any since I flew in late Friday night) to the hardy volunteers on the course pointing the way at every turn. Wonderful "state marathon" that I heartily recommend for future state marathoners looking to bag ND.

It rained all night Friday night, but by race start it had stopped. How does this happen so often! Race start temperature was 35F and the winds a chilling 20MPH from the NW and gusting to 35MPH. Ouch! Fortunately much of the course was through sheltered neighborhoods with large trees, or along the Red River.

I tried to start slowly. Honest it felt like I was
crawling, but still my first two miles were my
fastest--seems like I could learn after 67 marathons. I made it through in 3:07 and none of my miles went over 8 minutes. I made a friend, James Kennedy from Fargo, who I ran 3/4's of the course with.

Fargo is Fargo. Quirky and unique. The folks from Fargo really talk like the folks in the movie. Uff DA!
