The next day I gave up on my arctic sled as the trail became
more rugged.
We were breaking trail now, sinking about a foot with each step. Even though we kept a strong steady pace we only managed to make about 2 km per hour! The snowshoes were like lead weights on our feet. As we neared the 2nd loop cutoff I told Dave our plan to hike the 2nd loop might not be very realistic. |
By my calculations we would have to hike until around 9 that night
(with our headlamps), only to be force to awaken before dawn to trudge
out the next day, breaking trail all the way.
Dave was disappointed. |
